Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shafali Verma Face NADA Notices
Indian cricketers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shafali Verma have reportedly been issued notices by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) after missing scheduled dope tests, according to multiple reports.
Both players are part of NADA’s Registered Testing Pool (RTP), which requires athletes to provide accurate information about their location and specify a daily one-hour time slot during which they are available for out-of-competition testing.
The issue reportedly emerged after Dope Control Officers (DCOs) failed to locate the players during their declared testing windows.
What Happened in the Missed Dope Tests?
According to reports, including one by news agency PTI:
- Shafali Verma was reportedly unavailable during a scheduled sample collection on November 7, 2025.
- Yashasvi Jaiswal was allegedly not present at his designated location on December 17, 2025.
Following the incidents, NADA reportedly contacted both players in February 2026 seeking explanations regarding the missed tests.
However, the agency allegedly did not receive responses from either player, leading to the incidents being officially recorded as “missed tests” under anti-doping regulations.
BCCI and ICC Informed About the Matter
Reports suggest that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) have both been formally informed about the whereabouts failures involving the two cricketers.
Jaiswal and Shafali have now reportedly been given a final seven-day window to submit valid explanations regarding their absence during the scheduled testing periods.
As of now, neither player has publicly commented on the matter.
What Is a ‘Whereabouts Failure’ in Anti-Doping Rules?
Athletes included in NADA’s Registered Testing Pool are required to:
- Update their location details regularly
- Declare a daily one-hour availability slot
- Remain accessible for surprise out-of-competition testing
If a Dope Control Officer arrives during the specified time and the athlete is unavailable, it is officially classified as a “missed test.”
This falls under the broader category of “whereabouts failures” in anti-doping regulations.
Can Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shafali Verma Face Suspension?
At present, this is reportedly the first recorded missed test for both cricketers.
However, anti-doping rules state that:
- Three whereabouts failures within a rolling 12-month period
- Can amount to an anti-doping rule violation
If such a violation is established and the athlete fails to provide a satisfactory defense, they could face a suspension of up to two years from the sport.
For now, the situation remains at an early stage, but further violations could create serious complications for both players.
Prithvi Shaw’s Previous Doping Case Recalled
The reports have also drawn comparisons with the 2019 case involving Indian batter Prithvi Shaw.
Shaw received a backdated eight-month suspension from NADA after testing positive for Terbutaline, a prohibited substance found in cough syrup.
The banned substance was detected after Shaw’s urine sample was collected during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign in 2019.
The BCCI had stated at the time that Shaw had unknowingly consumed the prohibited substance.
Growing Focus on Anti-Doping Compliance in Cricket
The latest developments highlight the increasing emphasis on anti-doping compliance and athlete accountability in Indian cricket.
With players now regularly included in global anti-doping testing pools, maintaining accurate whereabouts information has become a crucial responsibility for professional athletes.
Cricket authorities are expected to closely monitor the matter as the response deadline for both players approaches.
