New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made a major breakthrough in the Red Fort area car bombing case, arresting a Kashmiri man accused of helping execute the terror attack that killed 10 people and injured around 25 others earlier this month.
The suspect, identified as Amir Rashid Ali, was taken into custody in Delhi. The car used in the explosion was registered in his name. According to investigators, Amir, a resident of Samboora in Pampore, Jammu & Kashmir, allegedly conspired with suicide bomber Umar Un Nabi to carry out the deadly attack.
NIA officials said Amir had travelled to Delhi to arrange the purchase of the vehicle, which was later turned into a powerful vehicle-borne IED (VBIED) and detonated near the Red Fort on November 10.
Forensic analysis has confirmed the identity of the suicide bomber as Umar Un Nabi, an Assistant Professor in the General Medicine Department at Al-Falah University in Faridabad and a resident of Pulwama district in J&K.
The anti-terror agency has also seized another vehicle linked to Nabi and is examining it for additional evidence. So far, 73 witnesses, including multiple victims injured in the blast, have been questioned in connection with the case.
The NIA continues to investigate the larger conspiracy behind the attack and suspected links to terror networks operating from across the border.
