“Unpopular in own family”: NDA slams Tejashwi over Yadav family feud

NEW DELHI: The escalating feud within Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family has triggered sharp responses from leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Several BJP leaders have demanded accountability from Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav after his sister, Rohini Acharya, accused him of using “filthy and humiliating abuses” against her.

BJP MLA Nitin Nabin questioned Tejashwi’s leadership capacity, stating that if he has lost support within his own family, his ability to lead society at large is doubtful.
“It may be a family issue, but Lalu Yadav has pushed his whole family into politics. Today, when Tejashwi himself is facing resentment in his own home, how can he bring change in society? He should come forward and respond to these serious allegations,” Nabin said.

BJP MP Jagdambika Pal alleged that Rohini Acharya was being made a “scapegoat” for the RJD’s disappointing performance in the Bihar Assembly elections.
“The responsibility of the election results lies with Tejashwi Yadav. Yet his aide Sanjay Yadav asked Rohini Acharya to take the blame. The emotional trauma forced her to think of distancing herself from her own family. If they can’t manage their family, how will they benefit the society?” Pal remarked.

Echoing similar sentiments, BJP spokesperson Dr. Guru Prakash Paswan said that once a political figure makes public allegations, it ceases to remain a family matter.
“First Tej Pratap spoke out, now Rohini. Someone must be held accountable for the defeat. Lalu Yadav has enjoyed long political success, but his party is facing a decisive crisis today,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Tej Pratap Yadav — who himself has had strained relations with the family — extended strong support to his sister.
“What happened yesterday has shaken me deeply. The humiliation faced by my sister is intolerable. If conspirators target our family, people of Bihar will not forgive. This battle is for dignity, not politics,” he wrote, urging Lalu Prasad Yadav to take action against those “misleading Tejashwi”.

Rohini Acharya’s emotional social media posts on Sunday intensified conversation around rising tensions within the Yadav family. She claimed she was “abused, humiliated and even assaulted” after questioning the party’s electoral setback.
“A daughter, a woman, a mother was insulted — a slipper was raised at me. To protect my self-respect, I had to leave my father’s home in tears,” she wrote.

Referring to her kidney donation to Lalu Prasad, she added, “I gave him my organ to save his life. Today that kidney is being called ‘dirty’. I hope no daughter faces what I am facing.”

Rohini has directly named RJD aide Sanjay Yadav and Tejashwi’s close confidant Rameez Khan as being responsible for the discord, accusing them of isolating her from the family and driving her to withdraw from politics.
